The idea of a Rotating Rod Holder was born from a light bulb moment by the inventor Jim McQuade back in 2010 whilst fishing in his Quintrex 510 Top Ender some 55 kilometres off his hometown of Cairns, Queensland, Australia.
He was anchored in 60 meters of water, bottom fishing, with his rod in the standard fixed rod holder and the direction the current was flowing created an awkward bend of the rod and the direction that the line was running, was not ideal, Jim asked the question of himself; if only i could move that? Hence, the idea was born.
Spotting a gap in the market, Jim decided to bring his idea to life, believing in the need to improve and evolve the common fixed flush mount rod holder and solve some problems associated with it.

2010
Genesis of Exploding Fish
Sitting 55km out on the great Barrier Reef alone and haveing that one in a million light bulb moment for the solution to a problem of being locked in one position, glad i followed my dream.
2013
The Designing
From early days of drawing the idea that was in my head, to teaching myself to use a CAD program, and then in Scot Farley from F3 Design to bring it home, i fondly look back on my early designs and laugh at the simplicity of them.
2015
The Patening process begins.
Now the fun and realisation starts, Patening your idea, the nerves were on edge as the first process is to search and see if its already been done, Bingo, a 5 year tediouse process now starts to secuer all 15 Patents, $$$
2017
The manufacturing Prototyping & Production stage.
One of the most important stages is partnering with a manufacturer that has the capabilities of acually making the Rotating Rod Holder, beleive me when i say making it was no mean feat, but our new partners in Thailand raised to the challange and the exceptional quality and function was the final acheivement.
2019
Launching the Online Platform.
Launching a web site an social media is a crytical point in gearing up for a sales point, ive been hands on in designing my sites and have evolved over the years to my sixth platform, all designed and built myself, another thing i learnt in my journey, web site building.
My mate Nathan Powell runs our socials and still today reckons i owe him!
2021
Expansion to Distribution Stores
Exploding Fish bussines plan is to acquire distribution partners and stockists for expansion into the Australian and New Zealand markets.
Partnering with Distributors that are as passionate as you are is vital in growing the market.
2023
Global Expansion Begins
Exploding Fish expands globally into a Manufacturing and international distribution company servicing markets world wide and secuering partners for exclusive distribution to move the patented products exponentially into the market.
Now the realisation is setting in of all those years ago, with the hard work, that its now begining to become a dream coming true.
